In 2023, the Ead Samawi Foundation supported the ICRC’s programmes to empower refugees and host communities in Jordan, helping them strengthen their resilience, access essential services, and develop the means to meet their basic needs. Despite fleeing the violence in Syria, refugees continued to face immense challenges in Jordan, where access to essential services was severely strained. Many vulnerable families who lacked a stable income were at risk of eviction, while others faced health issues that required immediate attention.
In response, the ICRC provided emergency cash assistance to Syrian refugee households, ensuring that families could meet their most urgent needs, enabling them to cover their urgent needs such as rent, food and other expenses. Around 1250 people received a form of cash assistance. Beyond immediate relief, the ICRC also focused on long-term resilience. Through specialized training in water-efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural techniques, 65 farmers from agricultural communities gained skills to increase food production and improve their livelihoods, strengthening their ability to provide for themselves and their families. Additionally, individuals facing health-related challenges received targeted emergency cash support, enabling them to access critical medical care.
The ICRC played a crucial role in stabilizing livelihoods and preventing further deterioration of living conditions for vulnerable refugees and host communities alike. Through these efforts, the ICRC not only provided life-saving assistance but also helped lay the groundwork for a more sustainable and dignified future for those affected by conflict and violence. – Majed Samawi
