The Ead Samawi Foundation supported the ICRC’s critical healthcare operations in Lebanon amid the escalation of violence and deteriorating humanitarian situation at the end of 2024. The strain on Lebanon’s healthcare system has been immense, with hospitals and health centers facing shortages of fuel, medical supplies, and equipment – putting lives at risk. As one of the only organizations operating near the frontline, the ICRC played a vital role in sustaining life-saving medical care. In close collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross, the ICRC rapidly scaled up its response to support the overwhelmed healthcare system.
To address urgent medical needs, the ICRC deployed a surgical team to the Rafik Hariri University Hospital, ensuring that wounded patients received timely care. Additionally, the ICRC distributed essential drugs and medical supplies to 29 primary healthcare centers and 23 hospitals, helping to alleviate shortages and support ongoing treatment efforts. Recognizing the crucial role of emergency responders, the ICRC also provided medical materials to 11 emergency medical service centers, to ensure frontline responders have the resources needed to provide timely and critical care. – Majed Samawi
